Elegantissimo! ‘Venetian Chic’ Is The Must-Have New Style Book by Acclaimed Venetian Hotelier Francesca Bortolotto Possati

Her book is launched just in time for the Venetian Carnival 2017, and you’re invited to a Masquerade Dinner Party and costumed ball at the Bauer Venezia hotel on Saturday February 25 (see invitation and details below).

Assouline has just released ‘Venetian Chic’, a handsome new large-format book, the ultimate insider’s guide to Venetian style. The book is a tribute to the history, culture, arts and elegance of Venice, with images of ultra-private palazzi, interiors, architecture, Seguso glass, the Grand Canal, noble cathedrals, crafts, and private apartments. All that’s missing is the sweet and slightly saline scent of Venetian air.

Come with me for a first exclusive look at this delicious book—plus a special visit to Francesca’s empire along the Grand Canal. Oh, and the Masquerade invitation.

Glamorous Francesca Bortolotto Possati is admired as a leading figure in the worlds of Venetian luxury hospitality, philanthropy, architecture, and art. She has played a major role in supporting the restoration of historic buildings in Venice. She is the owner of four five-star Bauer hotel properties including Il Palazzo on the Grand Canal, as well as the new Il Palladio Hotel and Spa on Giudecca, and Villa F, which faces the lagoon and the Punta della Dogana, and the romantic waterscapes of Venice.

‘Venetian Chic’ takes readers for a very insider tour of private apartments, secret corners, glass-making, antiques, views, and closeup details of architecture, carving, weaving, embroidery, and all the arts and crafts that make Venice so alluring.

From Francesca’s private black book of friends and admired style leaders, she visits artists’ studios, the palazzi of elegant Venetian friends, and a series of restored art works, churches, chandeliers, gilded carving, chapels, and Venice’s hidden corners.

Robyn Lea’s images, some free-form and very impressionistic, show the sense of history and mysery that saturate the buildings and landscapes. This is private Venice, without the crowds, and with secret access to places that hark back to the artists of the Renaissance and the chic masquerade balls of centuries past.

Francesca Bortolotto Possati opened her private photo albums to show family celebrations and historic balls and holidays.

And she reveals the everyday pleasures of fresh food markets, silk weaving, old workshops that craft velvets and silks too glorious to imagine (that are sold to decorators around the world). Perhaps best of all, photographer Robyn Lea has spent years roaming and discovering. Her romantic focus on only-in-Venice treasurse makes this book a revelation.

This is the Venice of dreams, the iconic destination through new eyes. A witty and affectionate foreword by Jeremy Irons complements this stunning volume.

“Venice has welcomed me on a few fine occasions and left me with a multitude of plangent memories; Listening to the oh-so-limited repertoire of the gondoliers. Discovering the hidden life and the hidden palazzos and churches. Reveling in this ancient place that refuses to change.”  — From the foreword to ‘Venetian Chic’ by actor Jeremy Irons

Everyday Beauty: The Creative Mind of Elad Yifrach — Exciting Design News From One of My Favorite Design and Style Companies, L’Objet

New York designer Elad Yifrach astonished me last year with his Dada-inspired tabletop décor, and then a series of ‘Magic and Mystery’ and 'Smoke and Mirrors' desk designs, dining décor, and witty white porcelain rabbits. Then he introduced fantastic candles inspired by his travels and memories of his cosmopolitan life.

Now…just months after those impressive introductions I have news of his latest ventures—a new West Village style store, and a new apothecary-style collection of bath and body and room scent products.

Bravo, Elad.

You saw L’Objet candles and mysterious objects exclusively on THE STYLE SALONISTE last year.

Now Elad’s restless and fever-dream creativity has created a refined and focused new style store on Bleecker Street.

And I crown Elad ‘Best in Show’ for his beautiful, trend-setting and directional new collections (Tulum-inspired) that he presented last month at Maison & Objet style trade show in Paris. Following this highly successful trade show introduction, L’Objet will have these new designs in-store soon.

L’Objet: The Shop

Highlights of Elad’s L’Objet collections are displayed on shelves and vintage tables of the store—along with new and rare classic books, vintage lighting, antique décor, glass, candles, soaps, and Fortuny pillows (Elad has a lively association with the family that now directs Fortuny).

If you venture to Elad’s new shop on Bleecker Street in the West Village — you must — you will see the luxurious and sensual new L’Objet apothecary range of body care and room scents made from natural materials and essential oils, and developed with brand perfumer Yann Vasnier.

Apothecary

The new L’Objet apothecary collection comprises three fragrances: 'Rose Noire', 'Côte Maquis' and 'Bois Sauvage', very sensual, in beautifully presented hand and body wash, hand and body lotion, room spray, and bath salts, and soap.

His candle collection is beautifully presented in a matte white porcelain container, with mysterious graphics and a ‘lucky’ number.

I’m particularly fond of his ‘Jasmin d’Inde’ candle, with a subtle jasmine scent that reminds me of Jaipur in the spring.

All About Elad

Elad Yifrach, founder and creative director of L’Objet, designs luxury tabletop and decorative accessories using time-honored artisan techniques and traditional fine crafts styles. All of the company’s products are his original designs.

Elad began his career as a young interior designer in Beverly Hills. After many months of inspired exploration and sourcing the world’s foremost artisans to make his designs a reality, L’Objet was born in 2004.

Born and raised in Israel, Elad was immersed in the Mediterranean region’s rich cultures, history, crafts, and natural beauty

Elad works with small studios, craft ateliers, and a diverse group of traditional manufacturers, to create limited-edition objects.

A shimmering dinner plate may be fired three times with hand-applied 24k gold.

His delicate jewel-like frames have become collectors’ items for their precious gold finishes and exquisite quality.

Elad lives in New York City where he is a yoga devotee. He often travels to Paris, Tulum, Israel, and London, and for in-store events around the country. When he’s at home, he loves entertaining.
