View across the landscape.
This week I am rock-climbing, hiking, mountain biking, reading, dreaming, as well as exploring the chic new Amangiri Resort in Utah.
I’ll take you on the trip in a couple of weeks.
In the meantime, here are images that capture the sense of wonder and marvels of this stunning place.
To get there: Fly (departing at 5.52am) from San Francisco to Denver. Then Denver to Page, Arizona. Then a half-hour drive to Amangiri.
Back soon.

Hi from Scotland! That spa looks incredible - the night time view makes me want to jump on a plane and get there as soon as I can! x

Looks beautiful. Love the lighted entrance to the spa.
Hi Sarah, from Amangiri-Thank you for your comment. This is like being in a mini Grand Canyon. The property is surrounded the NAVAJO NATION and there is nothing but mountains, high desert, buttes, mesas, tumbleweeds and silence.
Cheers to you in Scotland.
Lovely Notting Hill-
Cheers to you on the East Coast.
Here is is all beige and rust and golden oxide--with blue shadows on the distant ranges. Incredibly beautiful. Best thing about the resort (which is very eco) not a south-west design cliche in sight (no turquoise...or faux Indian decor)...it is all pale taupe and stone colors and sand tones. Lovely.
Cheers, DIANE
Such an ethereal landscape. I cannot wait to hear more!
Diane,
This resort looks just wonderful! I am looking forward to see more pictures of it!
Have a nice stay!!!
xx
Greet
You have left a teaser and now I await with great anticipation for news and photos from you!
Please ask about a Hot Air Balloon Ride at Amangiri.... the perfect way to get a peaceful birds-eye view of the resort.
How lucky you are Diane! Can't wait to see/hear more about your trip!
That photo at night is just so hauntingly beautiful...like the southwest generally I suppose! Can't wait to hear about your trip upon your return...
Have a great time Diane and looking forward to more pictures and their description which I am sure will transport all of us there with you.
Exquisite, Diane. And who'd have thought the already magical landscape of southern Utah could have been in any way enhanced? Looks like the perfect marriage of nature and pleasure. Looking forward to your review!
All the best,
Michael
Dear Pamela (and Terry), and Greet (I hope it's spring in Belgium), and Tina, Dee Dee, Kim (see you soon), and Laura, Brilliant (hope you are traveling), and Michael-
I loved your messages and your keen and insightful comments.
I've just returned--and Amangiri is a remarkable place. I spoke to an architect friend, very traveled, very wordly, who had just returned from Amangiri--and we were trying to think of a small resort (34 rooms only) that is in such a dramatic and stirring landscape. Bora Bora in Tahiti, is lovely but not so millennial and Jurassic. Most other ultra- luxury resorts are on private beaches or on a lake or mountains. Southern Utah...is like a mini Grand Canyon and the resort looks out on a blue-shadowed landscape with not a building or road or roof or sign of life in sight. Come back in two weeks for my in-depth report. cheers, DIANE
Dear Diane,
It was lovely meeting you at Amangiri and sharing the mountain and desert vistas as we hiked. Now that I'm back in La Jolla, those strange hoodoos and gorgeous wildflowers seem a world away.
I hope our paths will cross again in the not-too-distant future.
Cheers,

I hope you had a wonderful time Diane and I am looking forward to your insights and images, xv.
