They know everything. They've seen everything. And Tony's point that it's best, for daily living, if curtains are not a drama. He also liked quite plain fabrics--and went to a centuries-old silk weaving company, Lisio, in Italy, for his curtain textiles. Always the same company, usually natural silk but in his LR it was a rich Venetian red. I've had very enthusiastic feedback to this story. He had died nine years ago...and truly had faded into oblivion, nothing on the Internet (meaning, you don't exist...)...but now I have this tribute, always findable on my blog, and via Google.
cheers, DIANEDiane Dorrans Saekshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02259292681678952448[email protected]tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6543457325368639597.post-20624041061698889412013-10-01T14:53:36.235-07:002013-10-01T14:53:36.235-07:00Fabulous post! They were custom made of finest Russian Red leather(as he called it),a few were of Hermes leather with handmade paper from Italy....but the size was the kicker. They we 3 feet by 3 feet and 4 to 5 inches thick!
I house guested with them when I was rather young and after Tony showed me a page or tow....I could hardly sleep or leave the house for pouring over each page.
The books were the complete culmination....of a well lived life...unlike any other. He also had many books of a biographical nature with most of them signed by the authors. Most wonderful.

Compare the Christie's images...with the ones from my book, which were around 15 years ago (the very 'golden' light-filled shots)...and you will see that the framework and display of his collections remained constant...some pieces came and went.
