My honeymoon was spent on the Dal Lake in Srinagar.A dream of mine was to walk along the Shalimar gardens. I was fascinated by Mughal history . Thank you for your incredible generosity in sharing all these wonderful titles…more books to be added to my ever
growing bookshelf!Francine Gardnerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02042631088215474109noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6543457325368639597.post-41062335184964411622014-08-02T11:16:28.702-07:002014-08-02T11:16:28.702-07:00Dea Friend--

The rooms are used a lot, and only the old library looked quite original.
Thank you all dear friends for your close reading of this story…oh, and I think MITTAL TEAS will ship tea to you…from India. They are the best loose-leaf teas.
Also Kashmir Loom is a must visit. The quality is the highest--and in particular all of their designs are classic, beautifully crafted and somewhat understated. When you return home, they don't look like 'my trip to India' but rather very classic cashmere styles. I love their colors as well. I've looked at so many shops and so many collections of cashmere--and theirs is the finest, by far. Colors are elegant and would look beautiful in Paris, London, New York…they are very beautiful.
onward to the next travel..DIANEDiane Dorrans Saekshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02259292681678952448noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6543457325368639597.post-13681366264835108972014-08-02T00:30:36.012-07:002014-08-02T00:30:36.012-07:00Some lovely photos of Rashtrapati Bhavan and great...Some lovely photos of Rashtrapati Bhavan and great comments about Lutyens. Next I want to read the Queen's Maharaja which sounds very, very interesting and then go back to read some of Dalrymple's other books and the full Raj Quartet.

That's the plan...of course, one needs to take a break after a couple of books on this subject to regroup. There is so much to absorb, it can be overwhelming! Last time I sidetracked to read Lawrence IN Arabia which covers another part of the world which interests me and has taken me years to understand. Like India,it takes a while to decipher and sort out. Have you read the books on Gertrude Bell and Freya Stark? You remind me of them...

Another great post, as usual.

lindaraxahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15721286284279902181noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6543457325368639597.post-76070236452504305022014-07-29T16:21:56.508-07:002014-07-29T16:21:56.508-07:00I was just talking to someone yesterday about want...I was just talking to someone yesterday about wanting to return to India soon. Hello. I just want to say how much...My dear Diane,

Hello. I just want to say how much I enjoy reading this post. The colour of blue sky in the first picture took my breath away. It seems a little bit cliché when I say there is no colour lovelier than the blue of the Asian sky at night. It is radiantly beautiful.

The interiors of The Lodhi hotel look absolutely first-class. I love the way you cherish and devour the books! I could spend the whole day at Bahrisons. I'm sure that you would find a lot of rare, esoteric books there - this is just what I love about the old bookshops!! I love your collection of books on India. I'm currently reading an Indian related book: "Imaginary Homelands: Essays and Criticism 1981-1991" by Salman Rushdie. If you have not got this book, I would like to recommend it to you. The imagery and the way of life he captures about India is absolutely insatiable.

With best wishes, G.

PS. I think you inspire me to put my kettle on for another cup of tea! Ceylon tea is my favourite!A Super Dilettantehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02640893790909916004noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6543457325368639597.post-35550574474845084062014-07-29T07:24:09.299-07:002014-07-29T07:24:09.299-07:00Diane you have intrigued me immensely and I am so ...Diane you have intrigued me immensely and I am so interested in reading both Daughter of Empire and The Raj Quartet!

xoxo
Karena
C.
