So Thrilled to Tell You About My New Book: ‘JEAN-LOUIS DENIOT INTERIORS’ Published This Week by Rizzoli

I’m excited about the launch of my newest design book, my twenty-second.

‘Jean-Louis Deniot Interiors' features the architecture and interior design—and two abstract and two oneiric projects—by the highly talented Jean-Louis Deniot. He has just turned forty, and the 286 pages of the book show the range and extraordinary polish and perfection of each of his projects.

My text is highly detailed—with information about sources, custom designs, materials, paint colors, concepts, the design process, architecture, styles, and art.

I added an all-new section called “Inside the Mind of Jean-Louis Deniot’ in which he offers insight, inspiration, tips, ideas, wisdom, wit, and ‘secret addresses’, designers he admires.

The firm’s office, on a historic street on the Left Bank, includes 22 highly talented architects, designers, and specialists in antiques, art, and textiles. It is truly a team effort, with Jean-Louis leading the way.

“I always want to get as far as possible from the white box. My interiors are about atmosphere, character, texture, and a sense of harmony.” — Jean-Louis Deniot

‘Jean-Louis Deniot Interiors’ will be published this week—and already it has been honored and named one of the top design books for Fall by AD, Elle Décor, and Vogue. PaperCity Houston and Dallas issues have a witty and spirited full-page feature, called “Young, Fabulous and French”, by Rebecca Sherman. (Thank you, Holly.)

I’m so appreciative of the comments in these four publications—and I’ve quoted them below.

About the Book: How Did I First Meet Jean-Louis?

As I document in ‘Jean-Louis Deniot Interiors’, I first met Jean-Louis Deniot soon after he opened his Paris office. I’d been invited by longtime friends to attend the Prix de Diane thoroughbred horse races at Chantilly. We stopped for lunch at a nearby country residence Jean-Louis Deniot was renovating and for which he had designed enchanting interiors. Some of them are in this book.

In just a few fast years, Deniot became the young super-star on the Paris scene. Then in New York, Los Angeles and New York, and now Delhi and Chandigarh and Moscow he gathered a dazzling roster of worldly clients, mostly by quiet reference from one client to another, the ideal ultra-insider private introduction.

Dashing Deniot, with great discretion, is a favorite architect and interior designer for discerning connoisseurs, style-conscious executives, Old Guard Parisians, hyper-chic young London couples, high-flying art collectors, and to clients in India, Capri, Monte Carlo, Colombia, New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Kiev, London and all points north and west. No names or specifics are ever discussed, and his projects are always highly confidential.

I have a great team in Paris,” explained Deniot. “As I take on more clients, in India or Morocco, or Belgravia, we are
bursting at the seams, even though we just added a new floor. We like our atelier on rue de Verneuil. Many of my staff has been with me almost from the beginning. There is an architecture department, incredibly fine. I have a design and resources department, the top. I have great resources for antiques and art. And I'm situated o the Left Bank, surrounded by museums and historic edifices and the top antique dealers and art galleries, fabric showrooms, workshops, and experts in many design fields.”

The book has been honored by all the top design magazines. We had a wonderful feature in C Home, and then, to my surprise, Vogue and AD and many others have been so enthusiastic.

I’ll let them tell you what they think:

“Jean-Louis Deniot has become synonymous for his urbane and artful approach to design, which he undertakes as a holistic endeavor starting with a space’s very bones. In fact, he conceives of himself as an architect first. His interiors, always striking in tone and contrast, are a marvel of custom work—the viewer is made to believe that each element in the room can only exist in conjunction with the rest. Deniot is nearly cinematic in his execution. Characteristically striking is a grisaille Parisian sitting room, rich in texture and art, seamlessly arranged with elements like a shagreen coffee table and artwork by Sophie Calle.”— Mieke Ten Have, VOGUE, October 2014

“It’s impossible not to be seduced by Jean-Louis Deniot’s exquisite designs. Each project, the perfect blend of luxury and rigor, proves that there is a place for classicism in today’s decorating landscape. The designer’s first book, Jean-Louis Deniot: Interiors (Rizzoli, $65), authored by Diane Dorrans Saeks, surveys the breadth of his work, including projects in the U.S. and France.” — ARCHITECTURAL DIGEST, OCTOBER 2014

“Diane Dorrans Saeks, a longtime contributor to PAPERCITY, has written the first book on this charming and exceptionally talented architect and designer who creates rooms as dashing as he is. Up next for Deniot? He’s just signed with Baker Furniture to create more than 90 pieces of furniture and lighting to be introduced next fall, 2015.” — Rebecca Sherman in October issue PAPERCITY, Houston and Dallas

“I always want to get as far as possible from the white box," says Jean-Louis Deniot, the red-hot Parisian interior designer who cites maximalists Henri Samuel and Alberto Pinto as his inspirations. JEAN-LOUIS DENIOT: INTERIORS (Rizzoli, $65) is a lushly photographed introduction to the decorator's sophisticated and layered blend of worlds old and new. The book highlights his amazing range, whether he is designing a soigné Chicago apartment that would not be out of place on Paris's Right Bank or restoring the 18th-century working farm he owns with his sister Virginie outside of Touraine, in France's Loire Valley.” — ELLE DÉCOR, September 2014

What will you find in the book? Contents?

The book is divided into chapters dedicated to historic houses, residences, and private apartments on the Left Bank, the Right Bank, in the French countryside, with another titled French Projects in America.

The book opens with Deniot’s own residence in Paris, and ranges from a jewel-box pied-à-terre overlooking Notre Dame, to his sister and business partner Virginie’s country house in Touraine; from a glittering art-filled

Chicago apartment steeped in cool Parisian glamour, to a sunny Paul R. Williams house in Hollywood that is Deniot’s former home when work and life bring him to LA.
